How Our Insomnia Program Works
One of the most common questions we receive from potential patients is "How does your program work?"
We are going to cover the most comprehensive, natural and effective program for insomnia that we've ever created. Patients are raving over how amazing this program is giving them long-term relief.
People really want to know the details of how we help get our insomnia patients better, especially when all they've heard from ofther health care providers is that the only solution is a sleep medication. (Which you'll find that this may not be your only or best option.)
You want us to answer 3 basic questions:
1. What is my problem (not just the insomnia but why is the sleep cycle dysregulated and why is my memory worsening)?
2. Can your office help me?
3. What is it going to take to get me better?
Let us start by telling you that we must evaluate and develop a care plan for you as an individual with a condition, not just a condition. That's an important distinction. You may have found that your health care providers performed testing and used a one-size-fits-all approach. While this plug-and-play approach may work in some circumstances it obviously does not work for everyone. By addressing your specific needs we can help pick the most effective care option for you. This is why functional medicine works so well. Individualized care is important.
By targeting the destructive forces leading to insomnia we can then hope to restore various system to as close to 100% function and bring you relief.
An important side note: We endeavor to discover the underlying reasons for your sleep problems but won't always be able to shine light on the causes. While we may never discover all the factors causing insomnia this doesn't negatively impact you getting better. Why? Because the principle of sleep health holds true across the board. Read on...
The SLEEP HEALTH EQUATION: APPROPRIATE GUT FUNCTION (+) PROPER BRAIN FUNCTION (HIPPOCAMPUS) (+) HEALTHY BLOOD SUGAR STABILITY (+) APPROPRIATE ADRENAL GLAND FUNCTION (-) INFLAMMATION IN THE BODY = HEALTHY SLEEP CYCLES
* Metabolic Factors: Metabolism refers to all the chemical factors (vitamins, minerals, proteins, inflammation, immune and hormonal factors and so on that can impact sleep health). More about this later.
* Neurologic Factors: The brain plays an incredibly important role when it comes to sleep health. A healthy brain will send signals down to the adrenal gland for appropriate cortisol hormone production. The health of the entire nervous system must be taken into account in order to give you the best possible outcomes.
Why aren't more doctors taking this approach? Time and Point of View.
Most physicians are overworked and short on time. We spend time with your patients. Most health care workers are also beholden to operate based on what insurance companies allow. That means you may not get all the testing your doctor would like. Who's the doctor here? We hate to say it but insurance companies continue to play an ever-increasing role in the care you receive.
Lastly, medical doctors have a different health point of view... "disease only" care is their focus. They operate on the treatment of disease using medications. There is a time and place for this but it has it's limits. We'd rather help a person avoid getting so sick that they never get the condition in the first place. We're sure that makes sense to you.
Functional Medicine takes a holistic approach to look at the body's various systems. Our goal is to restore cortisol and melatonin function so you can have sleep health once again.
We start by asking different questions to understand what you are going through. Our paperwork will give us clues to understand your past medical history and current symptoms. We can clarify your condition and begin unraveling the mystery by taking time to go thruogh a very specific case history. Once we know where you've been and what your goals are we can begin testing to get to the source of your condition.
TESTING - Special Labs and A Fresh Point of View
We need to order specific lab work that goes beyond standard testing and your lab work needs to by interpreted in a functional way with strict boundaries for normal.
There is a difference between laboratory normal and functional normal. Lab values become abnormal when disease occurs. Functional values become abnormal when dysfunction begins and before pathology can take root.
Here's an example: Fasting blood glucose laboratory ranges from 65- 99 mg/dL (and higher for some labs). We just don't think that's good enough for you because functional ranges are much tighter at 85 - 99 mg/dL. This is because we know that symptoms and dysfunction can start occuring quickly when the values begin to creep outside the functional ranges while you're being told that everything looks normal.
There are other tests and organs/systems to consider:
1. Adrenal gland/HPA Axis function
2. Hormones (male/female)
3. Liver function
4. Blood sugar control
5. Oxygen perfusion/Saturation levels
6. Gastrointestinal function
7. Food sensitivities
8. Neurological function
* There can be other testing based on your specific history and needs.
Has anyone looked at you this thouroughly? If not that's probably why you continue to have symptoms. Doing the same thing over and over gets you the same old results.
Will the Doctors Accept My Case?
Our in-office insomnia consultation and examination is the starting point for case acceptance. We don't want to waste your time or money. The time we spend during the consult/exam will give us an idea if we can help you. Be reassured that most people, even with a long history of insomnia, aren't beyond symptom relief. The only way to know is to receive the screening.
Once we have the information necessary then a specific plan is developed for your needs.
THE PLAN
Everything is spelled out for you. Each patient that is accepted into care receives their own care manual. This is a proprietary manual that was developed by our office to reconstruct and restore your health from A-Z.
This manual is built around your needs and contains every step that you'll take during the course of your care.
* You'll receive all the details on your targeted supplementation plan throughout your program
* Specific diets

* Specific health and teaching topics to empower you for a lifetime
* Tips to get the most out of care
* Pitfalls to avoid and how to handle setback that can occur from excessive stress or infection

It's organized, effective, efficient and in our patient's words...Priceless. You can always refer back to it in the future. Our patients absolutely love this approach and I'm sure you will too. We've taken all the guess work out of the process for you.
Each visit at our office gives us the ability to cover a variety of topics: learn about your specific needs, how you are progressing, teach you important information about your body and condition, course correct and guide you, give you the next steps or care, review lab findings and/or make decisions about yor next steps in care.
